K‑12 students in the U.S. create a location-based research StoryMap related to a topic in their home state, using ArcGIS Online tools. Each school may submit up to five entries per state; top entries earn $100 awards and finalists are selected for the national competition judged by Esri. Projects are judged based on focus, data quality, analysis, cartography, presentation, and documentation. The competition emphasizes originality and place‑based storytelling
