Stockholm Junior Water Prize

Location:
National and international events. U.S. finalists travel to Washington University in St. Louis (June 2025), then international event in Stockholm during World Water Week (late August)
Cost:
Varies by state or national entry; many states run free submissions through science fairs. Travel expenses for state and national winners are typically covered

Eligibility:
Open to individual students or teams (up to two) in grades 9–12 who will be at least 15 years old by August 1 of the competition year and have completed a water‑related research project

This prestigious competition challenges high school students to conduct original water‑science research aimed at improving water quality, management, or treatment at local to global scales. Projects are judged using criteria like relevance, creativity, methodology, subject knowledge, practical skills, and quality of paper and presentation. Regional and state winners advance to the national level, and the U.S. national champion competes internationally in Stockholm. Awards include scholarships up to $10,000 (U.S.) and $15,000 with a crystal trophy internationally
